The warm, sultry voice of young mezzo-soprano Melody Wilson conveys a natural communicative elegance and a sense of conviction that promises a rich future in both bel canto and verismo repertoires.

In the 2011/12 season, Ms. Wilson will return to Opera Delaware to perform the role of Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte, and will travel to Slovakia to sing Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été with the Slovak State Philharmonic and present a solo recital at the U.S. Embassy in Bratislava.

In 2010/11, she performed Flora in La Traviata at Opera Delaware and Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the University of Michigan. Previous seasons have included performances of Mercedes in Carmen, Opera Quartet in The Ghosts of Versaille, Kate in The Pirates of Penzance, Strawberry Woman in Porgy and Bess with Opera Delaware, Larina in Eugene Onegin at the University of Michigan and covering Page of Herodias in Salome at Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly with Opera North.

Ms. Wilson has appeared internationally as a concert soloist and recitalist. In addition to her concerts in Slovakia this season, she has sung the Alto Soloist in Haydn’s Theresienmesse in Wexford, Ireland. In 2011 she was invited to perform a recital at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts in Green Bay. She has sung the Alto Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Kennett Square Symphony and in a concert of The Sacred Music of Duke Ellington at the Wilmington Jazz Festival.

Melody Wilson is a five-time recipient of the Jessye Norman Fellowship and was winner of the International Czech and Slovak Competition in 2009. In 2005 and 2006 she received awards from the Austrian American Society of Delaware and was one of the winners of the Kennett Symphony Orchestra Voice Young Artist Competition in 2004. “The three ladies of the Queen of the Night (Veronica Chapman-Smith, Melody Wilson and Charlotte Paulsen) stole the show for me with their close harmony, perfectly paced singing and gestures. Their comic romps were hilarious and kept everyone laughing.””

Margaret Darby , ARTS IN MEDIA, 2011

“Refreshingly natural and beautiful singers were the sopranos Melody Wilson and Julia Ebner as Mercédès and Frasquita.”

Bill Lowe, RUTLAND HERALD, 2009

“Nicely done, also, to Darren Stokes, who sang the role of the matador, Escamillo, and to both Julia Ebner who sang the role of the gypsy, Frasquita and Melody Wilson who sang the role of the gypsy Mercedes. Solid performance came from both in every regard. Each added immeasur-ably to the success of this production.

Paul Joseph Walkowski, OPERA ONLINE, 2009
